Great script, wonderful performances - particularly by Claude Rains, Fay Wray and Mary Clare.

I'm obsessed with 30's and 40's films that debunked the spiritualism movement that peaked in the 20's thanks to Houdini and others who exposed the charlatans. EVIL MIND is an excellent example of this cool sub genre. Note: EVIL MIND is the truncated U.S. cut of the British film titled THE CLAIRVOYANT that runs almost 10 minutes longer.

Film was still new in the 30's. Most previous to this were silent. One would think people would've been pleased to watch anything during the great depression. Besides, I think it's pretty darn cool. Drew F.

Fay Wray, Claude Raines and Jane Baxter all give excellent performances. Fay Wray is beautiful as always and her clothes, along with Baxters, represent the height of fashion in the 1930s. I love Jane Baxters lips. Gorgeous woman. The plot is good and never lets you down. This movie is well worth watching.
Technicals:
The first time I downloaded this film on h.264 and the sound track was out of sync at 58mins, but I downloaded it again and it was fine so it must have been my internet connection (I'll remember that the next time it happens).
Both h.264 and Ogg have some background noise, sounds like a swarm of bees, but it doesn't keep one from hearing the dialogue at all. You won't notice once you get absorbed by the fine performances of Mr. Raines, et al, and the beauty of the leading ladies.
Print visuals are fine for a 1934 film.
Thank you IA for such a fine film.

He was a fantastic actor; loved everything he did, even when he played the heavy.

Claude Rains and Fay Wray were magnificent!.. Excellent story line too.. This 1930's film precedes the great 1950's classic television shows such as, "Tales of Tomorrow" and "The Twilight Zone"... Only wish it could have gone on a bit longer.

This is an early British entry in the career of the inestimable Claude Rains and worth a look.Fay(King Kong)Wray gave her throat a rest. Support also from Felix Aylmer in the role of prosecuting barrister

@Richard Sergeant: Didn't you notice that these are all uploaded by different people, many of whom obviously know nothing about video encoding?
I think it would be good if this site provided a "howto" section to try to eliminate the awful quality we're seeing. It's not all that hard. XviD is the best video codec to use; a lot of standalone players support it these days. There are drag-and-drop solutions such as viDrop that make it pretty easy.

I would expect 68 minute movie in a 700MB .avi container to be largely free of digital compression artifacts. Unfortunately, the video shows terrible pixelation throughout. Made it hard to watch, really. The audio was OK.
Anyway, it's an entertaining film. The courtroom climax is great. Claude Rains' gives a fine performance. Fay Wray looks gorgeous.

Captivating and mesmerizing from the beginning. This early work of Claude Rains and Fay Wray pulled me right into the moment of the mindreading storyline with both good acting and excellent support of the other actors and staging. This is very entertaining. Although our current genre of movie making would call this one perhaps 'simplistic' I would call it one of the 'They don't make them like that anymore', even if it had the Hollywood ending.
After watching the movie a second time with my wife I have to augment my first criticism about the digitalization and jumpiness. It's not all that bad. The movie is good through a second watch and my wife, who knows little of Claude Rains, fully enjoyed his performance and thought the movie worth her time.

During the past 2 or 3 weeks I have downloaded the DivX versions of various films. All have been a disappointment (quality not quantity). The mp4 versions are satisfactory but at too low a bit rate and screen resolution. Would the person responible for coding the DivX films please check their handywork, they are doing something wrong and it is spoiling my enjoyment.
